I have had a wide and varied career in the fitness and wellbeing industry, it all started at the age of 16 when I started as a gym junior at my local gym. This mainly involved cleaning up all the sweaty towels, cleaning down the kit, stocking up and all the real dogsbody work. Strange thing was that I loved it! Just being in the gym, talking to the members and Personal Trainers (who at the time were like gods to me) gave me a massive buzz.

After a about 12 months I took the step and did a very basic fitness instructors course, this gave me just enough knowledge to become a Fitness Instructor. This was one of the best days of my life and also the most daunting, I had my first induction. At the time this was a massive thing to me and I gave the client my very best, they ended up with a 90 minute induction (normally 30 mins).

Over the next 12 months I saved hard and put myself through the Premier Diploma in Personal Training and Sports Therapy. This was an awesome course, it really gave me the depth of knowledge and skills I needed to become a Personal Trainer. I worked for a few months in a chain gym and then decided to go out on my own in 2002.

I formed Foresight Personal Training, with the aim of being the leading Personal Training, Strength and Conditioning, Rehabilitation and Therapy consultancy in the North West, UK. The business has gown year on year, and very surprisingly even through the recent economic climate. We aim to give all our clients a high quality service, motivation, and above all RESULTS. To us if you get the results you desire we have done a good job. We work to the Foresight Personal Training System which has been honed over the years to give clients a high level of support and encouragement in working towards their health, wellbeing and fitness goals.

In 2005 I and my team started to work in the corporate sector offering a wide range of health and well-being related services to clients across the North of England. I have found this an amazing experience and one that gives us as wellbeing professionals a real stage where we can make a difference to a group of people. Some of the things we have been involved in include, wellbeing roadshows/fairs, one on one consultations, manual handling training, stress management training, consultancy, and much more. The corporate scene for helping people to improve their health is steadily growing and is one that I feel will help to improve the health of the nation over the next few years.

I have been involved in the education of new entrants and those looking for CPD within our own industry for a number of years.  I have delivered courses for personal trainers, sports coaches and leisure staff. I have also been assessing personal trainers and fitness professionals to ensure standards. I have found this to be an amazing experience as I love knowledge, this really does give me the opportunity to both share and grow my own knowledge base.  Additionally I have developed a number of leading courses for a range of training providers in the UK and abroad.

I have served on the Register of Exercise Professionals Members Council, this involved attending regular meetings and representing the interests of the membership. If you are a fitness professional or are thinking of becoming one, and would like any advice or anything raising at the next REPs council meeting please do let me know.

If you would like to know any more about me please do drop me a line!
