In the modern world of internet marketing, having a blog is a vital part of creating valuable and most importantly sharable content. This in turn will help to keep you in the mind of your customers and prospects and also be seen by a wider audience. It is important that this presence is used wisely to project your image as a trainer and help to shape you as a fitness brand.
So how do you make sure that you write posts that are interesting, informative and most of all sharable?
The first step as with most things is the planning, a little time spent here can help you to save time later and to ensure that your posts flow well. The planning stage has a number of steps, the first and most important one is to chose a topic. This should be something that excites you, your passion for a subject is often very visible in your writing. Passion and a good level of knowledge and understanding in the subject area will help you to put across your message in an interesting and engaging manner.
Once you have a good topic in mind it is time to try and get some form of a structure down. This does not need to be a huge amount of work, but involves considering the key concepts of the post and trying to assemble them into some form of logical order. This will help to ensure that you have a flow and direction in your writing, additionally helping to ensure that you as a writer remain on track.
The plan will then also help you to identify areas that you may need to do further research in, to help either check some facts or to help you ensure that your giving full and detailed information. In most cases those who write blogs or articles in general may not be the most qualified in some of the areas they are writing about, but they do the research and follow the plan! It is vital however that you choose authoritative and current sources of information…. Remember not everything that you read is true!
Now this is where the main bit comes in… get writing! It is now time to start the writing process, I have always found it best to engage in free writing. This is where you write and write without any form of editing, then once the article is written shut it away. A few days later get it back out and stat editing with fresh eyes and a clear head.
Once you have the post written, edited and reviewed, it is time for the last couple of steps before you get it out there! It is highly advisable to add some images as this will help to drive reader engagement. The images you chose should be relevant and most importantly adhere to copyright laws.
Then do a final edit, where possible read the post aloud as this will help you gage flow. Additionally it is also great if you have anyone else who can read over your post and help you to identify areas of improvement or errors that you may have missed. Finally it is then time to push the publish button and there it goes!
It is important to remember that it is not an easy task to write so do your best, over time as with anything in life you will improve. It is also a common theme that writer are never satisfied with their work, but there has to be a point where you draw a line under a particular piece and move on.
